As a councillor, you will be responsible for standing up for the rights of the residents in your community, acting as the spokesperson for any problems that might be arising in your area. From the easy-to-solve problem, to the longer-standing thorny issues, from policy decision-making to working with other public bodies, every day will present a new and interesting challenge. And, as a councillor, you will have the power to make the changes happen, to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of the people with whom you work.
Some examples: Cornish Councillors have campaigned for cheaper water bills and Scottish Lib Dem Councillors have campaigned about rail services
“ Since being elected I feel I have helped reinvigorate a sense of community, especially in the potential redevelopment of my local town centre.” Cllr Donal OHanlon , Bury Council, elected in 2008
